SCT Empowers Person with Disability in Shibuyunji

Shibuyunji District, Zambia – A beneficiary of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme in Shibuyunji District is demonstrating how inclusive social protection can transform lives and promote self-reliance among persons with disabilities.

Mulemwa Simwana, a person with an intellectual disability and speech impairment, has successfully utilized the Social Cash Transfer support to establish a sustainable livelihood. Through prudent investment, Mulemwa ventured into livestock farming and currently owns 17 goats, while also engaging in other agricultural activities.

His achievement reflects the positive impact of targeted social protection programmes in empowering persons with disabilities to become economically active and independent members of society.

During a recent engagement, Mulemwa’s mother expressed gratitude to Government for its continued efforts in supporting persons with disabilities through various empowerment initiatives. She noted that the Social Cash Transfer programme has not only improved their household welfare but has also restored hope and dignity.

Officials from the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Department of Social Welfare commended Mulemwa for his initiative and effective use of the support received. They emphasized that his success story serves as an example of how inclusion and opportunity can unlock potential within communities.

The Department of Social Welfare reaffirmed Government’s commitment to promoting inclusive development, stressing that no one should be left behind in national development efforts.

ZAPD also expressed appreciation to the Zambia Association for Employment of Persons with Disabilities (ZAEPD) for its continued advocacy and support in advancing the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in Shibuyunji District.

Mulemwa’s journey stands as a testament to the power of inclusion and the importance of sustained investment in social protection programmes that uplift and empower vulnerable members of society.
